Hidden Gems—a monthly collection of precious discoveries (delivered every full moon). Uncover treasures that speak to the heart.
At the core of every writer is a reader. Reading is breathing in; writing is breathing out (Pam Allyn). As I share with you my writing, allow me the honour to share with you my reading. Enjoy xxx
The perfect piece of parenting advice shared via Austin Kleon: “give yourself what you needed as a child, and give your child what they need now”. So simple, yet so powerful. Part of rediscovering myself has been reconnecting with my own childhood needs, desires and dreams.
Like the majority of millennials, I spent years reading non-fiction (self-help) books trying to make myself into a better person. Little did I realise I would feel most at peace with myself when indulging in the likes of Harry Potter, Little Women and Eat Pray Love. After a few busy years deplete of fiction and fantasy, Annika has encouraged me to return to the stories that help us become healthy human-beings.
Armans tantalising title I love being married but wouldn’t recommend it to anyone reeled me in, hook, line and sinker. I thought it would be shallow, but instead was filled with humour and wisdom. A great read for anyone considering putting a ring on it, or for those already shackled (kidding!).
I encourage you to read all of Jess Pan’s posts, she has such a beautiful way of storytelling. Honestly just start here, and read your way through. She’s the main reason I felt inspired to write Can we not evolve? Simple stories about life…what could be more delicious?
Mariah Maddox will give you the feels with her honesty and gorgeous prose. Reading I am tired of healing and Do you really want to be well? unlocked a rawness and truth that I’m still processing.
This is a very small sample of what I’m reading this month. If you’d like a longer list, let me know.
Thank you for being here,
Chloe
